Hypothyroidism

Constantly being cold and tired is not a good way too live. Perhaps you have noticed you have more brain fog, weight gain (in some cases weight loss), hair loss and high blood cholesterol levels. Maybe it is time for a trip to your doctor for some blood tests to see if you are hypothyroid? Even if your TSH comes back in the normal range and you still have symptoms, then perhaps you should consider an alternative medicine doctor that will do a more thorough testing which includes TSH, T4, T3, reverse T3 and antibody testing which will allow for a better idea of what your thyroid is doing.

If you do have low thyroid then you need to know the cause. Most people have Hashimoto’s disease (autoimmune), but there are a small percentage of people who have had a virus attack. If it is not autoimmune then you will not have antibodies present. The treatment is the same for any form of hypothyroid and that is with thyroid replacement hormones such as synthroid.

If you are on medications and still have symptoms, just don’t put up with them. You should speak to your doctor, naturopath or integrative doctor about doing more testing and possibly trying to eliminate the symptoms by adding T3 (cytomel) or using a more natural replacement such as Armour.

The thyroid controls many functions in your body, so having it work to optimal condition is the only way to live.

SUNSHINE

Sunshine makes us all feel better, but what do you do when you live in a country where sunshine is at a premium? Many people suffer from a condition called SADD (Seasonal Affective Disorder Symptoms) and that is simply getting a form of depression when you do not get enough sunshine which supplies your body with Vitamin D. Not only can you get depressed, but also you can get a suppressed immune system and therefore you get sick more often.

So what is the solution? First of all, get your Vitamin D levels tested at you doctor’s office. There may be a charge for this. Vitamin D is not a water soluble vitamin, so if you do supplement then you need to test yearly so that you do not take too much and cause liver problems. Generally 2000-4000 IU will not cause any problems, but to be sure get tested.

You should also get a Vitamin D supplement which contains K2. This helps put the Vitamin D where it belongs (helps absorption).

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBLITY

Do you feel it is everybody else’s responsibility to keep you healthy? Restaurants should offer you healthy choices to eat and your doctor should always give you medication that would fix your physical issues. Well, I have news for you……IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBLITY! Only you can control what you put in your body and we need to each take responsibility.

Let’s start today. First of all, start making smart food choices. Today why don’t you try to eat less sugar. I mean the “white” kind, such as cookies, pop, and cake. If you are on medications you can read the pamphlet that comes with the drug and see if some of your problems may be from side effects of these drugs. What can you do about it?

Not all medications can be replaced, but a good example would be anti-anxiety drugs and their many side effects. How about going to your doctor and trying medical cannabis (high in CBD and little to no THC). It is often prescribed for anxiety and depression and minimal side effects.

REMEMBER ALWAYS BE OPENMINDED TO CHANGE!

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

I have worked in traditional health care for 35 years now and the way I viewed healthcare for the past 10 years has changed so dramatically that I can no longer sit by and listen to the lies that people are told. We somehow have put all of our health into the hands of people who we think are doing everything with our best interests in mind.

Legalization of medical cannabis (marijuana) a few years ago in Canada and some other parts of the world has at least allowed us to actually start to open our minds that there may be ways to help both our minds and our bodies obtain optimal health without the use of pharmaceuticals which often come with a multitude of side effects.

I encourage you to walk through this journey of discovery with me and start to think outside the box.
